Omar Negrete, Practice Manager

Omar holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with an Exercise Science Concentration and a minor in Biology from University of Texas at El Paso. He is

Certified in Personal Training from the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He has been in the industry for ten years. Omar was formerly a PT/OT Aide at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, a PT Tech at El Paso Physical Therapy Services, and a Microbiology Laboratory Tech II at Providence Memorial Hospital.

Omar says, “It is my personal mission to make an impact on individual and community health. My life experiences and education have left a strong desire in me to help others reach their health goals both today, and in the future. Understanding how physical fitness, nutrition and lifestyle impact our health is of vital importance for the health of all of our communities and New Heart is the perfect environment for that understanding to take place. I consider myself lucky to work with the excellent staff and members of our community on a daily basis.”

Serina Griego, Exercise Specialist

Serina holds a Liberal Arts degree with focuses in Nutrition and Exercise Science from University of New Mexico and has been in the industry for four years. She was formerly a Personal Trainer at Planet Fitness and an Assistant Women’s Basketball and Soccer Coach at Menaul High School. Serina says, “I got into this industry because I love to help people. With the knowledge that I have gained through college and throughout the past couple of years, I am able to reach out to more patients. There is no bigger reward than receiving a thank you for helping change someone’s life for the better.”


Carina Faris, Exercise Specialist

Carina holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from the University of New Mexico. She has been in the industry for one year and joined our team after successfully completing a semester long exercise physiology internship with our cardiac rehab program. Carina says, “I got into the Cardiac Rehab industry because I wanted to help people improve their quality of life through becoming more physically active. I love being able to help others utilize exercise to improve both their physical and mental well-being.”

Desiree Gallegos, Exercise Specialist

Desiree holds a B.S. in Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Northern Colorado. She previously worked as a Dietary Aide for Genesis Healthcare where she oversaw the health of residents. She was formerly a Cancer Exercise Specialist at University of Northern Colorado Cancer Rehabilitation Institute and an Event Team Manager at University of Northern Colorado. Desiree says, “Growing up I knew I wanted to work in a healthcare setting. I wanted a career where I could make a difference in people’s lives health wise. My interest in human anatomy and physiology brought me to the exercise science field. Ultimately, I want to work the rehab field of healthcare.”

Jackson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from New Mexico Highlands University and a Master’s in Exercise Science from University of New Mexico. He was formerly a Sales Representative at Defined Fitness, a Physical Therapy Tech at Spine Solution, a Physical Therapy Tech at New Mexico Sports Fitness, a Physical Therapy Tech at Christus St. Vincent and a Physical Therapy Tech at Nova Medical. Jackson says, “I love educating members and non-members on the values of staying healthy from a cognitive level and physical level.”


Shawn Gregory, Exercise Specialist

Shawn is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with National Strength and Conditioning Association and is passionate about empowering clients and patients to take control of their health through education and exercise prescription. Shawn graduated from Colorado State University – Pueblo in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science degree, In Exercise Science and Health Promotion.
Shawn has gained extensive clinical experience in treating a variety of patients from athletes, office workers, older adults, and individuals with chronic and complex conditions. He is experienced in treating a number of conditions including pre and post-surgical interventions, musculoskeletal injuries, occupational injuries and back pain. With his background in exercise science, Shawn uses his comprehensive knowledge and skills to promote injury prevention and rehabilitation      through high quality movements. Shawn says, “Together, I believe we can take a scientific approach to exercise in order to personalize a program that works for each individual. I strongly believe with proper education everyone can learn to enjoy exercise and live a pain free healthy life style.”


Felicia Marrujo , Exercise Specialist

Felicia holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from The University of New Mexico. Felicia was a intern with New Heart for six months before coming on full time as one of our Exercise Specialists! Felicia has previously taught dance with the Theater of the Southwest providing private lessons in Ballroom, Country and Swing Dancing, as well as assisting in Dance with Parkinson’s. While finishing up her education, Felicia was an Office Assistant for UNM’s Athletic Department. Felicia states that she entered into this industry because she enjoys working with people in the health field. “I want people to recover and complete their goals to get back in their daily routine. I think it’s important to set health goals for yourself and keep them through exercise and nutrition and have fun with it, for  healthy lifestyle.”


Jordan Scoby, Exercise Specialist

Jordan holds a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from The University of New Mexico. Jordan has worked in both cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation for a total of 5 years. She comes to New following have successfully established and supervised a pulmonary rehabilitation program. Jordan says, “I went into fitness to help others discover their potential. To help those who are afraid to exercise be more comfortable, and to educate them about how physical fitness can improve their quality of life.”
